Getting ready for your Families First event? Join the American Civil Liberties Union and MoveOn for a security and de-escalation training to get ready for your action!
The core principle behind all Families First events is a commitment to nonviolent action, and all participants are expected to seek to de-escalate potential confrontation with those who may disagree with our values.
Wherever you are and whatever your level of concern, this training is a great opportunity to learn best practices to consider when hosting or attending an event to help ensure it's as safe and welcoming as possible for all participants.
By the end of the session, you will know your protesting rights and understand how to recognize and calmly respond to escalating behaviors or conflicts—whether with opposition groups, bystanders, or law enforcement—while staying aligned with the event goals.
About Families First: Families First is a national day of action in response to the gutting of essential programs like Medicaid, FEMA, food stamps, and school lunches, all while escalating ICE abductions. We must make clear that our families come first—not billionaires, not authoritarians, and not corrupt politicians.
